Identity theft is one of today’s most serious “non-violent” crimes. KNBT wants to make you aware of some of the methods that criminals are using to gain unauthorized use of your personal financial information for the purpose of identity theft, or other illegal action. One of the most recent forms of identity theft is called “Phishing” – which occurs when Internet “pirates” send fraudulent emails, disguised as being sent from a legitimate business that you may recognize, in an attempt to obtain your personal information. The email directs you to click a link or visit a website, where you are asked to update personal financial information such as passwords, credit card or bank account numbers, social security numbers, etc., for fraudulent use.

Please be advised that representatives of KNBT will never call you or send you an email to solicit a response containing personal or private information. However, in accordance with the U.S.A Patriot Act, when you call KNBT, visit our branches, or submit an online application, we will ask you to confirm some information to verify your identity.
